If you’ve been telling yourself you just need a better mindset, a stronger morning routine, or more motivation, I want to challenge that story. When focus keeps breaking, when discipline feels impossible, and when you keep falling back into the same patterns, the issue usually isn’t what you’re thinking. It’s who you believe you are while you’re thinking it.

We go deep on mindset versus identity and why I stopped trying to “fix thoughts” and started helping people rebuild the identity beneath them. I share how my own turning point came after rock bottom, when I realized I couldn’t go back to the old version of me and I had to assume the identity my purpose demanded. From there, we unpack how silence, journaling, and honest self-inquiry make identity change possible, and why that kind of internal work feels harder now in a world flooded with digital noise.

We also talk about social media distraction and the dopamine loop that quietly trains low self-control, comparison, and validation seeking. If you feel scattered, numb, or like deep work is “too much,” you’re not alone and you’re not broken. You may just be out of condition, and you can recondition. I give you a practical reframe to use today: stop saying “I think” and start saying “I have an identity that believes,” so you can finally name the root instead of fighting symptoms.

Welcome to this episode of Evolved Mastery. I hope you guys are doing well. This guy is gonna be a really good conversation. And you know, I'm gonna take my time on this one because I really I really need you to sit with this and I really need you to hear this and understand this at a very deep level. Because I've been sitting with this thought. As you guys know, self-mastery starts with an identity shift. And in the world of personal and professional development, you hear a lot of people talk about mindset. But the thing is, the problem isn't necessarily mindset because when you set your mind to something and you have a deep enough why to do that something, you will stay consistent for a while. But there's a deeper question that we must ask what is the identity beneath the mindset? If we want to change a mindset, we must change the identity that is observing, responding, perceiving, and communicating through that mindset. When my journey first began after so much trauma, so many different experiences, hard challenges in my life, I hit rock bottom so hard after my failed suicide attempt that there was no other identity that I believed could sustain me moving forward. I realized that in order for my life to change, I had to begin to change in a way that I hadn't even seen yet. I knew that I couldn't go back to where I was. I couldn't go back to thinking how I thought, I couldn't go back to talking how I talked, I couldn't go back to living how I was living. And so everything began from that point as seeking something different, seeking a different way to think, seeking a different state of being. And I began this deep spiritual journey. And as that went on, I realized that looking back on it as I've been thinking about it the past few days, I realized that I had something then that most people don't have now, and it was just pure silence. The world wasn't as noisy, there wasn't as much going on, you weren't letting as much of the world in your head because social media wasn't what it is now. And so I would wake up and I would go for long walks. I had a walking stick and everything, but I would go for long walks and I would meditate on the changes that I desired to make, and I would question myself. Okay, what's gonna have to change? I would question certain thoughts when I would feel negative about something. Why am I thinking that way? What is that coming from? And I would sit with things, I would read and journal, and because there was no noise, it was either I was listening to music on a CD player or a walkman or something like that. Probably more of a CD player or a riding in my car or on the TV, because cell phones weren't what they are now. Social media wasn't then what it is now. And so I had no noise. I could choose either I'm gonna turn the radio on or I'm gonna turn the TV on, or I'm gonna go for a drive in my car and go hang out with some friends, or I'm just gonna go for a walk and I'm just gonna be with myself. There were less choices. And so I chose me. There were no distractions pulling me away from me because I could see clearly how distracting those things were. I could see clearly how easy it would be for me to be pulled back into this thing or this thing. Well, now the tricky thing about social media is that you're constantly consuming voyeuristically the lives of other people. And they're all showing you a different way of living and what they're doing, the goals they're reaching or pretending to reach, the money that they're making, the lifestyles that they're living. And it's so distracting because now you spend more time judging yourself, critiquing yourself, or trying to live up to a standard or an experience because you're constantly being bombarded with all the noise, and it's much more difficult to navigate the world if you do not have self-discipline and you have not reached a point where you are truly mastering self and taking steps to be or to operate at a higher level of self-control because this is ultimately what's missing. No self-discipline, no self-control. The distractions, if people say, I'm just I just get so distracted, what you're ultimately saying is I lack self-control. And you have to name that identity. I have an identity that has very low self-control. I have an identity that has very low self-esteem. And this takes us right back to the purpose of this podcast. And we're going to be talking about mindset versus identity. Why I stopped looking through the lens of mindset when transforming my life or leading clients or speaking to people from stage, and I started focusing on identity because I realized the mindset is not ultimately the problem. Unfocused mindset is actually a symptom of a false identity or a lesser identity, a less capable identity, a less disciplined identity, a less self-controlled identity, a less present identity, a less focused identity. It's all identity. And if we don't start talking about it and you don't start naming the problem, matter of fact, I want you to do this. I want you to look at every area in your life right now and every thought that you have about yourself. I want instead of saying I think this, I want you to start saying, I have an identity that believes this. I have an identity that I'm an imposter when I show up in spaces. I have an identity that is self-critical. And so I criticize myself. I have an identity that is lazy, so I'm not consistent with the work. I have an identity that doesn't believe he or she is worthy of love. So when I show up, I show up like I don't belong there. I have an identity and just go down the list. See, because this is where you begin to shift. This is where you begin to know exactly where the work must be done. Because, see, for me, when my life changed, all I knew was this work. There was nothing competing against this work. There was nothing I was seeing or giving myself access to that was keeping me from doing this work of reforming my identity. Because quite frankly, I was at war with the former identity. I knew I wasn't going to be that version of Princeton anymore. I knew I wasn't going to think like him, walk like him, operate like him. And from the moment I knew what my purpose was, I assumed the identity of that purpose that was required from me. I knew that if I wanted to impact people all over the world, I had to assume the identity of a leader, one who was fully equipped to communicate, to show up, to hold space, and to lead in a way that created change. And I had to believe it. See, the reason I can speak the way that I do, and I'm going to try not to get so excited because I really want to stay here with you guys at baseline. But the reason I can own the power that I own when I show up in my life, when I'm working with clients, the reason I can channel that energy into their lives and help them to pinpoint the areas of identity that are disconnected that they are not aware of, is because I operate at a high identity. I operate in this belief of self that is always evolving, always efficient, always getting better, and always transforming or becoming more aware so that I can be more expansive in my life. And so this is something that's very important to me. This is why I love helping people the way that I do. That's why I create things like the assessment that I created, because you need to know are you in a seeker phase, builder phase, or leader phase? And if so, why do you feel stuck? Why is your identity being challenged? Because it's always an identity issue. It has nothing to do with the external things because the external things are only responded to, thought about, or communicated about based on the identity that's preceding those things. So it all comes back to identity. Who do you say you are? What do your I am statements say about you? See, because we have to begin to shift this. And I know that it's more work, and it is more difficult now to do it by yourself than it was for me because you've developed all these habits. The digital space, the media space is basically programming your brain moment by moment by moment. The algorithm is specifically designed to keep you on the app, it's designed to get you to a point where you are addicted because it is constantly giving you things that you want to look at, read about, or hear the most. And guess what's happening? When you're looking at, hearing about, reading all of these other things, guess what? You're disconnecting from yourself and you're no longer connecting to yourself. You're no longer listening to what's coming from you. You're no longer able to be present because you're always being pulled by the dopamine urges to scroll, to read, to post, to get stuck in the vanity, to talk to your phone and your camera, to be seen, to be validated. And all of this becomes a mask that keeps you from seeing yourself, and you become a zombie in your own life. Now you've been domesticated to simply consume not to create, not to build, not to expand, not to evolve. Now all of a sudden, those things seem like too much work. It seems too hard. When really the truth is you've deregulated your nervous system. It's pretty much fried. You know, now when it's time to do something new, to evolve, to grow, because you've been doing the easy thing by allowing your focus to be pulled outside of you. Now, when it's time to discipline yourself and bring that focus back in, because you have not conditioned yourself or you are now out of condition, no different than an athlete or anyone else training for something who becomes great at it when they stop or they get injured, they have to recondition themselves. Guys, you have to realize that in so many areas of what we are as divine creators, we've disconnected and we've put ourselves in a space where we're not fully conditioned to operate at the capacity that we truly have the power to. And if we don't start having these honest conversations, nothing's gonna change. And so again, this is not a mindset issue, it's an identity issue. Who do you say you are? Subconsciously, what are you believing? See, because if you can start identifying the root and you can start seeing the symptoms that root is creating, guess what? Your focus is gonna become shifting the identity. And as a result of shifting that identity, the mindset will automatically shift because you'll be able to see more clearly what aligns with that identity and what doesn't. But walking through this process can feel challenging, it can feel difficult, and I know that. But please believe me, coming from where I came from, and if this is the first time you listen to this podcast, go back and listen to some earlier episodes. Coming from where I came from to being where I am now, it wasn't because I shifted a mindset, it was because I shifted identities. And it's funny because I always tell people I've died to more versions of Princeton than most people have ever overcome one version of themselves. Because that's what it's all about evolution. I've evolved and become so many different forms of Princeton. You know, and as you guys have heard me say before, Princeton is just an idea. The way you see yourself and think about yourself, it's just an idea. You are a powerful creator, and how you think, speak, and respond within the frame, the container of your life creates a reality. And so you really have to ask yourself, and I want to challenge you to journal around this. And maybe you're struggling. Maybe you're saying, I'm ready to do this work. I want to grow, I want to evolve, and this is really speaking to me right now. But how do I change my identity in a world of noise? I want to journal, but I don't really know what to say or what to write about. I feel so distracted. Well, if that's where you are, I have a special gift for you. And it's called the Real Identity Workbook. It's a 30-day guided practice built on the foundation of my real method framework. So it goes through four phases honest questions and the kind of clarity that's going to change how you show up in your life in every area. And it's 100% free. If you'd like to get a copy of the Real Identity Workbook, all you have to do is click the link in the show notes and it'll take you to a list of my links, and it's at the very top, along with the free video. There's a lot that I give away, guys. I try to be of service to people because how can you know something is going to work or someone is who they say they are if you can't really experience them? There's no way to vet it. But but just go to the link in the show notes and you'll see the free workbook. It'll download immediately once you fill out the form. But I want to help you guys. This workbook is a 30-day practice. It's 12 sections in it. It takes you through the four phases of the real method, and it's 100% free. But it can help you guys, but you have to start shifting your identity. And there's some other things on there. There's a quiz, there's the identity reset, there's a school community that's open now. I've only invited a few people into it, but you can join. It is a membership-based program. There are trainings. The real identity reset, if you're really at a point where you're like, okay, I'm ready to grow now. I need the guidance. I like the workbook, but I'd love to also have the trainings. The real identity reset is one of the trainings in my school community, also, the real money reset, changing the framing around how you see money. That's also in the school community. And there's several other trainings that are also in there. And so you can also check out all of that information on that link in the show notes. And it'll basically just a quick way to check out my website and go check out what's there. But I appreciate you guys. And I want you to think about the identity that you're operating in and ask yourself one question. Does this identity serve me? Does it serve where I desire to be? Does it serve the results or get the results rather that I am working to get and that I desire to experience in my life? And if not, again, it's not a mindset issue, it's an identity issue. And so I just wanted to get you guys thinking about that today. What identity have you assumed? Really look at your habits. And instead of saying, oh, I have these habits, say I have an identity that does X, Y, and Z. I have an identity that steps back in this situation. I have an identity that's lazy in this way. I have an identity. And that way you can start seeing it for what it is. And you can start seeing what needs to change, and you can start taking the steps to change it. It's a powerful practice, guys. So grab the free workbook, watch the free video, take the assessment quiz that I have as well. It's free. All these things are free. But if you really want to know where you are, you want to know what path you're on, seeker, builder, leader, take the assessment and just take advantage of the resources. If you're truly sick and tired of being sick and tired, then step into it. I truly care about seeing you grow. I truly care about seeing you evolve and step into that better version of yourself. This is the legacy that I want to leave to the world. A legacy where people step into their power, potential, and purpose, where they not only change their lives, but they impact every life around them. Men become stronger, wiser, more effective, leaders again. Women become softer, more feminine, more intuitively powerful, tapping into the very essence of what makes them so divinely unique again. People start giving birth to new innovations, creations, manifestations, and change in the world in a way that is measurable. And we start bringing more light and expansion to this life again. It's time to get out of the noise. It's time to reconnect. It's time to evolve back to a state that can truly maximize, create, and manage flow in this world in a way that future generations really need us to show up. And so let's continue to evolve, let's continue to rise. I appreciate you guys for joining me for this episode of the Evolve Mastery podcast. Like, share, help me promote. Again, I'm working to impact as many people as I can. And you guys, every time you share it, every time you promote it, every time you share something that I share, follow me on social media, share my content. You help me reach more people. And this is not a vanity thing. This is we can go further together. This is we can have impact. You may not have the words to share things that I share, but you can share the things that I share to also help people. And that's support. You can sponsor, there's ways that you can sponsor, there's ways that you can donate, or support the podcast. If you're on my link right now, there's ways that you can support. But anyway, I appreciate you guys. I'm gonna let you get back to your day, night, whatever time it is for you. But again, it's not about mindset, it's about identity. Let's start going deeper.
